Welcome to the East Lansing Public Library TEEN Summer Reading Program!
After a tough school year, we hope you really enjoy summer reading this year! The kids summer reading program is designed for those who are 12-18 years old (but we won't turn anyone away) and is minutes based, with optional challenges. This year you can track your participation virtually, here on Wandoo Reader, or with a paper log. If you would prefer to use a paper log, pick on up at the library our print the log out at home.
The Wandoo Reader virtual log and our paper log are set up for nine (one for each week of summer reading) 2-hour reading goals. If you are using Wandoo Reader to track your reading, you can log any number of minutes at a time (5, 15, 60, etc.), and the website will keep count for you. If you are using one of our paper logs to track your progress, you can mark off time read in 15-minute blocks. "Minutes read" can include independent reading of books, e-books, graphic novels, magazines, or newspapers; being read to; or listening to audio books. When you complete the summer reading program, you will have read at least 1,080 minutes! Of course, you may trade one 15-minute block of reading for a challenge, up to nine times. Or do the challenges on top of all your minutes, just for fun!
If you want to try our challenges, check them off on your paper log, or mark them as complete on Wandoo Reader. At the end of summer, if you've read less than 1, 080 minutes, but you have completed challenges to make up for the discrepancy in minutes, we will consider your participation complete. We hope our challenges will help you to use library resources you may have never tried before, like audiobooks, or just enjoy your summer vacation a little more!
Teens and preteens that complete the summer reading program will be entered in a drawing to win a prize. Prizes include gift cards to Tasty Twist and Biggby Coffee, games, a puzzle, and more!
Have a great summer, and have fun!
