Welcome to 1000 Books Before Kindergarten!
Reading books to kids ages 0-5 helps prepare them to read in Kindergarten, and increases their potential for learning and school success in elementary school and beyond. Douglas County Libraries is excited to join you and your child on your 1000 Books journey!
From this page, you can register your child and log books read (you can also print a paper log you simply color in if you prefer). After you register, visit the children’s area in any DCL library. A staff member will verify your participation and let you choose a free book to keep!
Then, be sure to log every book you read. If you read the same book more than once, each reading counts toward your goal, and reading one book to more than one child counts for each child. Attending library Storytime counts too—just be sure to log each book.
You really can read 1000 Books! Reading just one book a day for three years, or three books a day for one year will get you to your goal in a hurry. And remember, you can count any books you read any time before the first day of Kindergarten! Happy reading!
